Backyard Decks | Ipe Wood Decks | Hardwood Decks

Ipe (pronounced EE-pay) is world-renowned for its superior characteristics and properties. Ipe is one of the hardest woods in the world (according to the Janka hardness test) – which lends to its incredible durability and longevity.

Ipe wood is also known as  Brazilian walnut – which is a quite trustworthy wood  used in building backyard and pool decks and is considered exotic because of its color, look and physical characteristics. Ipe woods are mostly found in darker brown to medium brown in color.

Elements that are borne out of ipe wood are that it is  unusually strong in nature and resistant to mold, rot and weather. Due to the wood’s fine texture and interlocking grain, ipe offers superior slip resistance.

During one famous test, ipe resisted termite attacks for the 15 years it was buried in the ground. There is no other wood in the world that has been able to replicate this result. Combine that fact with the wood’s resistance to bugs, splinters, decay and mold and you find that mother nature has made the perfect wood for outdoor use – such as decking.

Ipe boards come in many sizes and can be adjusted in accordance with our customer’s needs. This lumber comes with the light to dark olive brown color with a little greenish tinge – and often with lighter or darker streaks.  Ipe is now widely recommended and used for outdoor construction projects such as backyard, roof top and pool decks.

We select the highest rated species of sustainably harvested Brazilian hardwood decking and lumber available, including ipe, cumaru, machiche, garapa.  Our inventory of low-maintenance hardwood decking species are carefully chosen for their beauty, durability, resistance to decay and insect damage, making them favorites with architects, builders and homeowners alike.
